Why not meet the wedding videographer at the studio (or Facetime / Facebook if living abroad) to see if you feel comfortable with them?

If you have heard great reports from your friends there is nothing to worry about. Being a friendly person is almost as important as their skills with the camera. as you’ll be spending your wedding day with them it’s nice to know you are in capable hands.

What style(s) do you specialise in?

Most videographers for weddings use a blend of several techniques. Lately, there has been a lot of talks about the lovely cinematic style. This does cost a lot more since the way it is filmed will need much more work when editing and filming.

When selecting the cinematic style, the videographer for weddings produces a film that will look more like a feature film rather than a documentary. Because a wedding is a family event, this style may not be suitable for everyone.

As a videographer, I prefer to keep it simple and unobtrusive as possible while using the most sophisticated equipment available. After 25 years and a few thousand weddings, I have a track record to prove it.

How many weddings have you filmed and how many do you do in a year?

In my opinion, this question has no impact as it makes them feel that you doubt their integrity. As long as they are filming for many years and have a great reputation, I assume you can trust them.

You only have one chance at all of this, so you’ll want to hire a videographer for weddings who knows how to work under pressure. It has to be a professional who films weddings for a living, not your old friend who does this as a hobby.

While most Videographers for weddings get on very well with photographers, there are a few photographers who are not comfortable around a Videographer. They might think we could take over their business. But it is not the case as we are in the business of capturing what’s happening at that time.

These days, most shooters will do a package to suit any budget. So make sure you know exactly what is included in your package.

Most of the video companies do not have one price as it depends on your own requests. To get the best value, make the correct comparison. If you want someone who is new and fresh it’s always going to cost a bit more so you want to be sure you’re comparing apples to apples to get the best value.

Don’t be afraid to ask whether the one you are in contact with will be the actual videographer. In case of emergency, most videographers have a backup plan for the event. Do not worry too much about this. Feel free to ask.

A second shooter can cover more ground and can give you another perspective on the major moments. Keep in mind that it will cost you an extra. Based on how much detail you want, the price could vary from 900 Euro to nearly two grand.

An issue can be caused by the time you’ll have to wait for your completed film. I heard that for some videographers it could take 6 months or more. This sounds a bit excessive to me.

How do you coordinate with my photographer? How do you envision working together?

Stay out of each other’s way — easier to do if they have a good rapport. If you haven’t hired a Videographer for weddings yet, ask them for a suggestion.

Have you ever shot at my venue(s) before?

Do you want a follow-up shot list? But if the videographer knows his stuff it is not necessary.

By hiring a professional, you’re hiring them for their eye as well as his skills. Let him get on with the job!

Do you bring your own lighting?

The equipment they bring won’t be too bulky or obtrusive. It must blend into the scenery, for instance by wearing a black suit.
